Collins Arch is a premium grade office building situated on the site of the former AXA building, 447 Collins Street, Melbourne. The building distinguishes itself from the traditional Melbourne CBD skyline with its unique architecture.

Jones Lang LaSalle engaged CAPACITY Building Emergency Management because of our proven experience with large complex properties and our demonstrated ability to help bring a building to completion with an emergency-ready capability.

Plan

Plan

Collins Arch is registered to pursue WELL Certification, the premier standard for buildings, interior spaces and communities. It is part of a luxury mixed use development which also comprises a 5 Star luxury Hotel, W Melbourne and 200 luxury residential apartments.

The office component accommodates large, flexible, contiguous floor plates of approximately 1,800sqm – 2,300sqm including the ability for large atrium spaces that provides workplace connectivity, excellent views and natural light.

As such, all components of the building were required to act in unison should an emergency occur. Planning requirements exceeded traditional commercial buildings that are generally occupied during business hours.

Prepare

Commencing a training program for key individuals prior to occupation of the building was essential to ensure that an emergency management capability existed in the final stages of construction. This formed the foundation of safety during the initial phases of occupation. COVID-19 impacted the manner in which training could take place. Extended quarantine requirements in Melbourne and Victoria necessitated online training for incoming tenants for the commercial section.

Similarly, the inaugural Emergency Planning Committee meeting and subsequent training was also conducted online. Despite these obstacles, occupation of the building as pandemic restrictions subside means that employers can be confident that employees have a level of understanding of emergency procedures from the very start.

Perform

As the precinct reaches full completion it is envisaged that a range of emergency exercises will be conducted. Within the first year of operation evacuation of all occupants will be a key feature of emergency exercises in accordance with AS3745.

Continuous liaison with Property Management ensures that risks and nuances of this unique property can be addressed prior to problems arising ensuring that the Emergency Plan continues to evolve to address threats affecting this landmark building.
