All eyes turn to the leader when an emergency strikes. Oftentimes that ‘leader’ is a volunteer or has been ‘volunteered’ into the role and little to no training comes along with it. The Chief Warden Field Guide sets out the responsibilities required before, during and after an emergency, shining a light on what’s really required to take charge in the modern interconnected world where expectations are high, but investment in emergency preparedness is low.
The moment between the impact of an emergency and Emergency Services arriving to help seems like a lifetime. As the emergency unfolds, all eyes turn to the leader for direction. The role of any facility’s Chief Warden becomes the ‘hot seat’ when chaos strikes. Now is not the time to falter.
